The capital of Seville is one of those cities that surprise travellers. Seville smells like lemon blossom. Seville is art. Seville is magic. The triangle formed by the monumental cathedral and the Giralda is a must-see for tourists and are two of the most visited towns in the city. In addition, together with the Reales Alcázares and the Archivo de Indias, Seville keeps some of the most memorable pages written in the history of Humanity.
In the streets Seville, travellers not only see things but admire them. They admire the monumental and artistic legacy that this town has as a result of an intense past and which has been created over the centuries. The Guadalquivir, which is the real foundation of this city, protects that legacy and coexists with some of the most important monuments of the city located on the surroundings.
Seville is also the birth place for the purest folklore in Andalusia: el flamenco. The real origins of flamenco are not very accurate, but it is known that it is related to the arrival of gypsies in the XV century. The “cante jondo”, which is another name for flamenco, is one of the most valuable dancing styles in the world.
Seville and flamenco need each other. This is why visitors should enjoy and visit any representations of this form of art. In order to really experience flamenco, travellers need attend flamenco shows. It is a charming show, full of passion and colourful with bulerias, soleares, fandango, sevillanas, in addition to other forms of classic Spanish dancing.
For travellers visiting Seville, the flamencos shows such as El Arenal, El Palacio del embrujo, El Patio sevillano, Casa Anselma or Los Gallos are a must. These are mythical and magical places where travellers can find this form of art from Andalusia. Here is where travellers can enjoy from the tearing of this musical ‘style’ at its maximum. In addition, these shows often offer, besides the spectacle of music and dancing, foods and drinks that are typical in the south of Spain, such as appetizers or chamomile wine. Flamenco and gastronomy find a perfect place in Seville.
Festivals dedicated to promote flamenco are also an attraction that travellers should experience. One of the most well-known festivals is the Bienal de Arte Flamenco, celebrated in the city every two years and is the epicentre for the most famous singers and bailaores (dancers). The Bienal is worth being visited by flamenco lovers since this festival represents a universal reference of what flamenco is all about. Above any musical artistic offer, visitors who arrive to Seville (tourists, congress attendees, diplomatic, travellers) have shown a great interest for flamenco.
Enrique Morente or Carmen Linares, Cristina Hoyos, Antonio Canales or Joaquín Cortés are some of the artists that have sung and danced on the stages of the most famous festivals in Seville-the capital that offers art.
