This locality of Phoenician origin was conquered by the Romans and later came under Arab rule. Remains of the wall can still be seen in the castle area, belonging to the district called the Rinconada del Castillo. Its narrow, flowery streets, with an Arab layout, invite us to stroll through them to discover the sixteenth-century Iglesia de San Miguel, the parish church. This town is famous for the curative properties of its waters (oligometalic, nitrogenised, radioactive and calciferous); this is why the spa called Fuente Amargosa stands at the entrance to the town, tapping into the spring discovered in 1867, ideal for people suffering from kidney, urinary tract or bronchial disorders.
