Utrera is a busy town, capital of an extensive municipal district on the right-hand bank of the River Guadalquivir at only 25 km from Seville. The town´s historic centre is the Plaza Mayor or Plaza del Altozano, where we find the Iglesia de San Francisco and the Town Hall. Nearby stands the castle, with a notable keep containing a tiny archaeological museum. Around the keep there are still some remains of the wall that once protected the town, the most significant remnant being the Arco de la Villa. The garrison courtyard now serves as a garden and lookout point over the old part of the town and the nearby Iglesia de Santiago, with its characteristic bell tower. Inside this church there is an altarpiece dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua.

Nearby there are other important buildings such as the Hospital de la Resurrección and some stately houses, especially in Calle Bohorquez where visitors can admire some seventeenth-century mansions. On the edge of the town stands another notable church, the Iglesia de Santa María de la Mesa with a beautiful portal.
