Dianum Romana so it was called in Roman days is
one of the Mediterranean ports linking the mainland to the Balearic
Isles. A must-see sight here is the castle, of Arab origin. Its main
attractions are the Sala del Consell (Council Hall) and Palau del
Governador (Governors Palace), the latter now housing the Historical
and ArchaeologicalMuseum.
Visitors shouldnt miss the view of the city and its beaches from the
top of the castle walls. A walk through the old part of the town is
also recommended to see the Iglesia de Santa María, the
seventeenth-century parish church with fine Renaissance and Baroque
altarpieces. Also worth a look is the main front of the City Hall, with
two Roman tablets set in the walls. The port is another point of
interest, as a ferry terminal, marina and, of course, as a fishing
port; afterwards we might try some of the delicious fish dishes
themselves in any of the local restaurants. © Alhena Media
