The History of Casa Clara

Casa Clara occupies a former colonial mansion integrated into the original layout of Cusco. The building was once home to the Monastery of Santa Clara, founded in 1558, before becoming the historic residence that now houses the hotel.

Its architecture preserves many features characteristic of Cusco's traditional houses, from the foundations and courtyard arches to the main entrance, staircases, tiled roof, and the long wooden balcony that defines its façade. An entrance hall and two courtyards shape the interior, following the traditional layout of the city's historic mansions.

Over the centuries, the building has survived transformations and earthquakes while retaining the features that reveal its origins. Today, Casa Clara offers the opportunity to stay within this heritage and discover a part of Cusco's architectural and historical legacy firsthand.
