Casa De La Luz

Hotel description

Casa de la Luz rises in the vibrant heart of Mexico City's Historic Center, housed within a building designated as a historical monument by INAH. Behind its discreet façade lies an architectural treasure where colonial history comes to life. This charming boutique hotel, part of the Domus Selecta collection, emerges from a desire to preserve and share its history, offering a space where time stands still, whispering its secrets through every stone, every forge, and every step.

Natural light pours through its ancient domes, flooding each corner with an almost mystical atmosphere while highlighting unique details like the wrought iron balustrade and the majestic central staircase. Casa de la Luz not only honors the imprints of the past but also sensitively integrates them into a contemporary proposal that invites guests to experience Mexico from its roots to its vibrant present.

Here, service becomes an art form. The team, deeply knowledgeable about the city, crafts experiences tailored to the soul of each traveler. They are artisans of genuine hospitality, capable of transforming each stay into an intimate connection with the history, culture, and boundless spirit of Mexico City.

History

Nestled in one of the most historically rich squares in the heart of Mexico City, Casa de La Luz stands as a living testament to time, where the centuries have left indelible marks on its century-old walls.

The building that now houses Casa de La Luz, recognized as a historical monument by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), has silently witnessed countless episodes that have shaped the country’s destiny. For many years it lay unused until a careful restoration returned it to its original splendor. This rehabilitation, executed with a respectful gaze, honors every architectural detail and layer of memory, allowing visitors to absorb the very essence of Mexican history and culture.

The property is located in Plaza Francisco Primo de Verdad, a space that has served multiple purposes: a cattle corral, slaughterhouse, and later, a market. In front of it lies the Hospital de Jesús de Nazareno, founded by Hernán Cortés in 1523, recognized as the first hospital institution in the country. Next to it, the Church of Jesús de Nazareno retains its original facade, painstakingly moved stone by stone in 1961. At the intersection of the two streets occurred the encounter between Moctezuma Xocoyotzin and Hernán Cortés in 1519. Meanwhile, Republica de Uruguay Street was home to nobles and prominent figures and became one of the most important areas with the arrival of the Spanish.
